Lessons of Love from Louise Hay

Updated: May 7, 2019

Love Yourself First

I start my mornings with Louise Hay. I also listen to her during the day and many times before I fall asleep. As I listen to her, I pretend she is my Mom. When she tells me she loves me and encourages me to love myself, I say thank you. I still do this even though she passed away recently.

Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life, Founder of Hay House Publishing, Miraculous Soul, Amazing Woman and the Queen of Affirmations, changed my life. I am a better person because of her.

The morning before I knew she had died, I smiled as I finished listening to my Morning Meditation.  When Louise said, “I love you, and we will be together again tonight,” I said aloud, “Ok! Thanks!”

I truly think that Louise Hay is/was the coolest woman ever. I am sad that she is not here anymore. I will miss her being in the world.

Crying as I write this, I feel so very grateful for everything I learned from her.

The most important teaching from Louise is that you must love yourself. This can be difficult, but she helped me learn that:

I deserve love.  I am whole.

I can change my entire life with my thoughts.

Another idea she shared, really blew me away. Here it is:

We think a thought.

Then we have a feeling about it.

And we believe the feeling to be real.

But it is just a thought, and a thought can be changed.

Re-read the above. It makes so much sense but I have never looked at my thoughts and feelings this way before! Have you?

Years ago, I attended a Hay House Writing Workshop in New York. Louise Hay was there but I did not get a chance to speak with her, until I had to use the rest room. The hosts, Cheryl Richardson and Reid Tracy, were calling people up to the stage and I had to go to the bathroom.

So before there was any chance they would call me, I quickly darted to the Ladies’ room.

I came out of the stall at the same time that Louise Hay came out of her stall. Here it was! An opportunity to talk to this amazing woman! The woman I admired and idolized.

I could have said anything. I could have thanked her, told her how much I liked her work…there were many things I could have said instead of what I chose.

I chose to blurt out, “I was scared they would call me up to the stage and I would wet my pants!”

She calmly looked at me and with a very slight smile and nod, she said, “You would have handled it.” I ran out of the bathroom.

What. The. Hell.  Coolest woman in the world and that is what I chose to say.  ERRRGGGGG!

But anyway, I loved her and her work and she will continue to enrich my life every day.

Some of my favorite Louise Hay quotes are below.

We forget that we create the situations, then we give our power away by blaming the other person for our frustration. No person, no place, and no thing has any power over us, for ‘we’ are the only thinkers in our mind. We create our experiences, our reality, and everyone in it. When we create peace and harmony and balance in our mind, we will find it in our lives.”  ― Louise L. Hay, You Can Heal Your Life

“If I want to change my reality,  then it is time for me to change my mind.”  ― Louise L. Hay

“If we want a joyous life, we must think joyous thoughts. If we want a prosperous life, we must think prosperous thoughts. If we want a loving life, we must think loving thoughts. Whatever we send out mentally or verbally will come back to us in like form.”  Louise L. Hay, You Can Heal Your Life

“Would you really dig into yesterday’s garbage to make tonight’s meal? Do you dig into old mental garbage to create tomorrow’s experiences? If a thought or belief does not serve you, let it go! There is no written law that says that because you once believed something, you have to continue to believe it forever.”  ― Louise L. HayYou Can Heal Your Life

I encourage all of you to explore the books, affirmations

and teachings of this amazing woman.

Love yourself and the world changes.

Let Louise Hay show you how to do this.

Have you read Louise’s work? Have you listened to her audios?

I offer these suggestions with love to you, from me, Diana
